Chinedu Akunne is a first-year Pharmacy student. He was born in Warri, located in Delta State, Nigeria. He is of Anambra State descent.
I am the youngest of three children.
I am the founder, athletic coordinator, and former president of the ULM Soccer Club. I am also involved with the ULM Speech and Debate team, ULM Amnesty International and the International Students Association (ISA). I served as ISA president. Now, I volunteer and support whenever I can. I participated in the Pre-pharmacy organization and support the American Women In Science.
I want to own a pharmaceutical firm similar to Pfizer. I believe this is the best and quickest way to reach and help a much larger and diverse group of people. When you put the people first, the money will come.
My favorite spot on campus is any place with extensive green grass and two soccer goals. Presently, that place is the ULM soccer field. I do not get to play there often; I usually play at Forsythe Park. I play soccer at any opportunity I have because of my passion for the game.
All of my teachers have helped make me who I am today.
My favorite memory is being part of ULM's Speech and Debate team that won an IPDA National Championship. We have our differences like all great teams do, but the similarities are: "Go. Fight. Win!"
Being so far away from home and family, I learned quickly that I must take responsibility for all of my words and my actions. With every passing day, ULM has helped me grow closer to becoming the man I want to be.
I chose ULM because:
I wanted to be an independent man;
The good reputation of the ULM College of Pharmacy;
The climate in Louisiana is not drastically different from what I am accustomed to in Nigeria.
