coffee with friends, gaining valuable experience

Nina Krey, 24, is a marketing major from Germany.*

I was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. I lived in Berlin most of my life, except when I spent a year in Florence, Italy, where I learned Italian. I transferred to ULM in 2006 from an American university in Heidelberg, Germany.

When I was looking for a university in the U.S.A., my boyfriend recommended ULM. Then, I got offered an academic scholarship, which made it a lot easier for me to attend ULM. I 'm glad I transferred here, and I would recommend ULM to any other student who wants to be part of a great university.

I have two sisters, and I am the middle child. My sisters live in Berlin, and both went to school in other countries.

I have developed many friendships at ULM thus far. I am the president of the International Student Association and I am the Vice President of Administration for Pi Sigma Epsilon. I work in the International Student Office, and I work for the Marketing Department. Through my job and my position in the ISA, I get to meet all of the international students.

I would like to work for an international company so that I can incorporate my international background and experience. Preferably, I would like to travel a lot or work in different countries around the world for the same company. One of my dreams is to open a coffee shop. I would like to own my own company after I gain enough experience in the corporate world. I 'm earning my degree in marketing, and I want to get my MBA as soon as I 'm finished with my BBA.

One of my favorite spots on campus is Java City, especially last semester. I enjoyed coffee there with my friends nearly every day. I also enjoy working out at the Activity Center. I love the fact that they have a sauna, which allows you to relax after a stressful day of work and school.

I really like all of my marketing professors. I like the way marketing classes are structured to include practical and creative work, as well as regular lectures. At first, I wasn 't sure if marketing would be the right choice for me, but after taking these classes at ULM I know I will enjoy any career in this field. Dr. Henry Cole and Dr. McConkey taught most of my marketing classes, and I enjoy their teaching styles a lot. All of the professors in the marketing department, (and all of the other professors I 've worked with at ULM), are always available and listen to any kind of problems I might have. I have never had professors who were so open and helpful.

Nina's ULMULM has helped me grow academically. I have taken many fascinating classes with a variety of professors. Since my arrival at ULM, I 've become more focused on my goal of completing my degree. In addition, I have gained valuable experiences through my jobs and my student organizations.

*Nina graduated in May, summa cum laude
