Message from the President
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the officers and other members of the Antonio Margil Chapter who contributed to make the November conference in Alexandria a success. In particular, I would like to recognize Dr. Dianne Douglas, our past president, who worked very hard to plan and organize the fall conference. The presentations were informative and well received as evidenced by positive feedback from several members who attended.During the coming year, I hope that we can work individually and collectively to meet our goal of bringing together teachers from around the state in order to share thoughts and ideas about issues that are of concern to us all. Through such communication we are better to understand the challenges we face, increase public awareness about the value of foreign language study, and influence political and pedagogical changes. by teaching methodology, this chapter will offer its members substantive information that is interesting, relevent, and useful to them. Such communication also provides elementary, high school, and university teachers with a better knowledge of the methods and materials being used at each of these levels. Of course, the ultimate reward of all such activities comes in the form of increased student success in the classroom and beyond.
As 1998-1999 President, I welcome you ideas and suggestions for the coming year. Early in the spring, the chapter officers will meet to begin planning the 1999 conference. Diane Jenkins is our vice-president and program chair. I encourage you to think about submitting a presentation proposal for next year's conference. If you have other ideas about possible goals or activities with which the chapter might be involved, these would certainly be welcome. The strength of Antonio Margil is directly dependent upon you involvement. We look forward to hearing from you.
