Research Interests
Research interests currently are centered around the areas
of marital
quality and prediction, with an emphasis on marriage enrichment,
marriage
preparation, the development of preventive models of care for couples
over
the life cycle, and in the area of marriage an family therapy processes
and outcomes. A project is being initiated which focuses on the newly
established
"Covenant Marriage Option" within the state of Louisiana. This
study combines both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and is
designed
to evaluate the decision making process of electing covenant marriage
vs.
conventional marriage license options from the perspective of the
couple,
the clerks of court where the license is issued and clergy performing
the
wedding ceremony. Current projects focus on marital adjustment and
marriage
enrichment processes and outcomes. Another study that is currently
being
initiated focuses on the impacts of participating in marriage
enrichment
programs. Comparative studies are being planned that will evaluate
premarital
and early marriage intervention and enrichment programs. Other studies
in
progress focuses on the development bicameral couples therapy model,
marital
conflict styles and conflict outcomes for high quality and low quality
relationships,
marital stability theory, using therapeutic letters as an adjunct to
marriage
and family therapy, and the use of therapeutic letters in training
family
therapists, and the use of pre-therapy letters from therapists to
clients
with family therapy clients.
