preparing for life after graduation

Lacey Bryan is a senior biology major from Pineville. She graduated from Tioga High School.

I have been involved in many different organizations. I have been involved in CAB, and I have been a Hawk Seeker. I pledged Phi Mu in Spring 2005, and I served as Phi Mu President during 2007. I was also a member of PREP Staff 2006, and I served as PREP Staff Leader in 2007. I work at K-sera.

After graduating in May, I would like to continue my education. I plan to apply to Medical School and become a physician. I really enjoy being around people and helping people. I want a job that is not only a highly-respected career, but something that I can do to help people on a daily basis.

I love our new Student Union Building. It's a convenient site where you can study between classes or grab a bite to eat with a friend. When I was a freshman, the old SUB was still on campus. There have been major changes since then, and the campus really looks amazing.

One of my favorite professors is Dr. Arant in the Chemistry Department; he is an absolutely wonderful teacher. Up until this past year, he was by far my favorite teacher. He really cares about the students, and he does a great job teaching and trying to help them understand the material. I mean, Organic Chemistry at 8 a.m. for two consecutive semesters can not be fun. However, he made it a great experience. Dr. Ann Findley in the Biology Department has also made a great impression on me. She is so knowledgeable and passionate about any subject that she teaches. I learned a lot of new, interesting things this past fall during her Genetics and Society classes. And of course, my advisor, Dr. Pritchett ... I didn't really know what I was going to study after my sophomore year. Dr. Pritchett put the idea of "physician" in my head, and he has been so encouraging and helpful throughout these past three years.

I have two equally favorite memories. When I served on PREP Staff, I met so many amazing people that I would have probably never met otherwise. It was a great experience, and it helped me grow as a leader. Also, the day I pledged Phi Mu is one of my best memories. I have met some of my very best friends through this experience, and Phi Mu has also helped me become a stronger leader, as well as a better person altogether.

Lacey's ULM graphicBecause ULM is a smaller campus, it has really helped me become active. I like the "home" atmosphere that ULM has to offer. These past four years have taught me so many things. I have learned how to study (oh how important that is!), how to become a strong, independent leader, and it has also helped prepare me for the "real life" that comes after college graduation.
