Converting documents to RTF before
sending them by attachment
| You do not have to
follow these instructions for the teacher if you are using Microsoft Word
or WordPerfect.
If you are using Microsoft Works,
however, I cannot read them, so you will need to convert by following the
directions.
Finally, you must keep in mind that other students to whom you may send documents
may not be able to read your documents unless you send in RTF/Rich Text
Format. |
First, make sure the essay is saved in RTF or Rich Text Format.
Different word processors all allow this using the same basic procedure:
- Open up the document file
- Click File, and Save As
- Rename your document in the "File Name" field following this format:
- tribe unsername [last name 1st & 2nd initial, followed by an abbreviate assignment name. Example:
- Look for the drop down menu that allows you to convert the file to a
different format
- In Word the
drop down menu is labeled "Save as type"
- In Corel
WordPerfect the drop down menu is labeled "File Type"
- In Works the
drop down menu is labeled "Convert to"
- Choose the RTF or Rich Text Format option
- Click Save
Doing this will allow any word processor any where on any kind of machine to
read your text and graphics. It occassionally has trouble, however, with tables and
charts and makes very large files if tables and charts or other graphic objects are part of the file.
Occasionally, teacher may ask you to submit
your texts in specific formats such as PowerPoint, Web Page, etc. If so,
teacher will direct you specifically as to how to go about accomplishing the
conversion.
| Do not send email or
Discussion Board responses by attachment.
Do not send graphics, finished essays,
and research documents by attachment unless Blackboard digital dropbox is
not working at the time you need to send. |
