Required Materials: A A Friendly Introduction to Number Theory (Second Edition) & Joseph H. Silverman.

Office Hours: 2:00-5:00 M, 2:00-4:00 T, 12:00-2:00 and 4:00-5:00 W, and 2:00-4:00 Th.

Grading: Two exams 200 points , homework 100 points, project 100 points, final 200 points, and total 600 points. Semester grades will be determined according to the following ranges: A 540-600 B 480-539 C 420-479 D 360-419

Exams: There will be two one-hour exams, each worth 100 points. The final exam will be comprehensive final worth 200 points. No make-up exams will be given unless I receive prior notifications, and then only with a University approved excuse.

Assignments: Homework will be routinely assigned. You are of course free to work with other students on the assignments as long as write up your solutions in your own words. Each student will be required to participate in a group project (involving 2 students in a group). Projects will have both a written and an oral component. Late homework and project will not be accepted. I will be happy to help you outside of class when you encounter difficulties.

Attendance Policy: Any student that has excessive unexcused absences in a class must withdraw or receive an F for the course.

Excessive unexcused absences: Two unexcused absences will constitute excessive unexcused absences. Guidelines for excused absences are found in the current ULM catalog on page 55 in the section entitled Class Attendance Regulations. A copy of proper documentation for an excused absence must be given to the instructor for their records. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of class each day. If a student is late, it is the student's responsibility to inform the instructor immediately after class so that they can be credited for their attendance.

FINAL: The final will be on Monday, May 5, 2003 at 6:00 PM in AIRW 315. The final is cumulative.
